The Default LAN IP Address & Password:
When you purchase a new Mettle SE it comes with default IP address of 192.168.1.1 on its LAN interface which is addressed by Osmium operating system as 'em0 or 'rl0' (in most cases); it is the first gigabit Ethernet port which will be usually marked externally as 'NIC 1'.
To gain access to Mettle SE for further configuration you should connect a PC to Mettle SE's LAN interface. If you directly connect to the interface please use a crossover cable. Now you have to change the IP address of Ethernet interface of your PC to an IP address that is on the same Network as Mettle SE.
For example: Mettle SE's default IP address is 192.168.1.1, so to gain access to Mettle SE you should change the IP address of your PC to an IP address like 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.3 etc.
To access Web UI of Mettle SE you can use a Java enabled web browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer and type https://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter. This will take you to Mettle SE login screen. Enter the default user name and the correct password to enter into Web UI administration section.
To Change Default IP Address:
Default IP address of 192.168.1.1 is configured on the LAN interface (em0/rl0) of Mettle SE. To change this IP address go to System >> Interfaces >> Interface Assignments >> LAN and enter the new IP address and subnet mask. Click on 'Save' and 'Apply Changes' to make changes permanent.
IMPORTANT: Once you change the LAN IP address of Mettle SE from it's default 192.168.1.1, to a new range that you wish to use in your LAN, you will not be able to access the Web UI from your PC any more. To gain access to the Web UI you have to change the IP address of your host machine to an address in the same range as that of the LAN interface of Mettle SE.
